Stud Poker Games

Stud poker is a poker variant at which players get to receive their own hand and some cards will be face-down and others face-up(exposed to opponents). This kind of poker does not accept redraws.

The popular versions of the stud poker make use of 7 cards or 5 cards per player. Players would have to make their highest hand making use of any 5 cards only.

There are several other variations of stud poker which make use of wild cards and also to include hi-lo pots.

7 Card Stud

This game is played with a maximum of 7 players. Each player gets to receive a total of 7 cards. The first 2 cards are dealt face-down and 4 cards are dealt face-up (exposed) and the last card (seventh card) is dealt face-down. The player who has the highest hand wins the pot.

The first 2 cards dealt to players face-down and the third card dealt face-up kicks off the initial betting interval. The second betting interval starts when the forth card is dealt face-up to each player, the third betting interval begins when the fifth card face-up is dealt to each player , forth betting interval begins when the sixth card is dealt to each player and the final betting interval is when the seventh card is dealt face down to each player.

7 Card Stud Hilo

Stud Hilo is quite popular these days and is offered an almost every poker room. This is the 2nd most played Stud poker game online. It is a split pot game that pays half the pot to the player wth the high hand and the other half to the player with the low hand. Like Omaha Hilo however, there is a requirement for the low hand. You must have five cards, out of 7, that are eight of less. Here is an example hand that would qualify for the low pot; 2-3-5-7-8.

5 Card Stud

In this game each player pays a small fee called the ante and is placed in the pot. The first card is dealt face-down to each player, the second card is dealt face-up to each player and this ensures the first betting interval.

The second betting interval commences when players have been dealt a third card face-up, third betting round commences when the forth card is dealt and then the final betting interval ensures when the fifth card is dealt to each player and the game proceeds to the show down if there are two or more players still in the game.

Three Card Stud

Players pay a small fee (ante) and they are dealt with one card face-down and the first betting interval begins. The next card is dealt face-up and the second betting interval commences and the final card is dealt face-up and the final betting interval ensures and then proceeds to the showdown.

Push

This game is often played hi-lo and each player gets to receive one card face-down and the second card face-up. The game makes use of a dealer button and the game kicks off with the player left to the dealer button at which his given an option to either keep his face-up card or pass it to his opponent to his left. After making a pass he will be dealt a new card and must keep it.

Each player will have the right to pass and the game play proceeds in this manner until players have got 5 cards. The players will then be allowed to discard and draw one card and the pot is awarded to the player with the highest hand.

Razz

Razz is a poker game which is often misunderstood. Basically it is a lowball game and it's also know as the 7 stud low. For the new players, razz appears to be a game of chance but this is a game that can be very complex. In simple terms, razz poker can be a very fun and exciting game to play if you have fully understood how the game is played. Razz is a poker game which is played by many poker players and it is also part of the mixed up combinations of poker games such as H.O.R.S.E.

I have been an avid Stud poker player for the last few years. In addition to 7 Card Stud I also play 7 Card Stud Hilo and Razz poker quite often. Texas Hold'em may be the most played card game online but the Stud poker variants can be more profitable for experienced players.
